Too Many to Choose

Our day was jam-packed with memorable quotes and moments. Here are a few for the sake of reminiscing:

-To the beach!

-Turquoise Pandas

-I appreciate you…

-Purple lips

-8-pack

-Giant Jellyfish

Two final reminders for this evening:

If you have not turned in your NMY evaluation to Samantha or Mitchell, you must do so by tomorrow.

You will be taking home everything tomorrow after school. Bring an empty bag or two to carry home all of your goods.

PPD

Your presentations of learning are this evening. Look at the clock…. is it after 6 pm? If so, you’re late. If not, rehearse your lines one more time! You are going to be fantastic no matter what.

If you get a moment this evening, there are some final things to be wrapping up in the next couple of days:

Greek Games: will be tomorrow. We had to postpone today due to more important things. Touch base with your fifth grade teammate this evening about what to wear, how to act, etc. This will work nicely since…

Tomorrow is Field Day! Come dressed for PE all day. There will be relay races at 10:45 and a faculty vs. 8th grade softball game at 1:00.

Math: You will have a quiz tomorrow or Thursday, depending on tomorrow’s events.

NMY Evals: are due Thursday. You should be wrapping up sections F-M and beginning to work on your own personal section N. A-M should be submitted anonymously to Samantha and Mitchell. Section N should be submitted on a separate document with your name on it.

Beach Day: Bring back your signed permission slip!

End of the Year: Please start taking things home. Do you have anything that belongs to Elizabeth, Meghan, Rosana or Janie?

Breathe.

Pre-nostalgia

It was nice to reminisce with you this morning on your favorite aspects of this year. We have a lot of really important and exciting events coming our way this week. As you look forward to summer vacation and moving on to the next big thing, don’t forget to slow down and enjoy them.

Presentations of Learning: are tomorrow evening. Practice your lines! Do you have everything you need? Objects? Slides? Outfits? Practice your lines! What feedback did you receive today that can help you to fine-tune your sections?

Greek Games: are also tomorrow. Bring in your costumes and be sure to reread the behaviors and tendencies of the citizens of your city-states. If you haven’t done so already, please coordinate with your fifth grade counterparts this evening in preparation for tomorrow.

Math: Quiz Wednesday

NMY Evals: are due on Thursday. In order to stay on pace, you should be working on sections F-M between now and Wednesday.  You may submit sections A-M anonymously to Samantha or Mitchell. Section N must be completed on a separate document with your name.

Spanish: Escribe un reflexción sobre el fin del año proyecto

Beach Day: You received permission slips from us today. Please get them signed and return them ASAP!

End of the year biz: Please start taking things home. Check your boxes, your cabinets, under the tables, on top of the tables, in the math room, in the project room, etc. for things that should be taken home or things that should be returned to Elizabeth, Meghan, Rosana or Janie. This includes, but is not limited to: books, costumes, games, writing utensils, overdue assignments, art projects, stuffed animals and lunchboxes.

Greek Olympic Behavior by City-State

Encore!

Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. I can’t tell you how many times I told people today that I’d pass along the message of how well everyone thought the Variety Show went today. Your hard work and dedication was obvious and it definitely paid off.

Here are a few things to keep in mind this weekend once you recuperate from today’s excitement:

Presentations of Learning: We had our first whole-group run-through today. Keep in mind any feedback that you got from your peers. Were you speaking too quickly? Did you run out of time? Were you reading with your head down? Practice, practice, practice what you’re going to say. We will rehearse (without scripts) on Monday and Tuesday of next week.

NMY Evaluations: How are these coming along? They are due to Samantha and Mitchell by next Thursday. In order to keep yourself on pace, you should be working on sections C,D, & E this weekend. In these sections, you evaluate Elizabeth, Meghan and Rosana. Sections A-M can be submitted anonymously.

For good.

Curtain Call

You were great mentors today for the fourth graders during our Morning Meeting. You showed them a realistic example of our typical Morning Meetings. You were also so much more focused and serious about your responsibilities during today’s rehearsal. I can’t wait to see you pull it all together tomorrow!

Math: Build 3D shape (you may color or add a design)

          Brainteaser due tomorrow

Spanish: Envíe tus ideas a Rosana por correo electrónico.

Presentations of Learning: Our first rehearsal is tomorrow.

Greek Games: We will be holding our Greek Olympics on Tuesday. (Yes, that is different than what we said in class today. I realized there is something scheduled Monday afternoon). Between now and then, be looking for your costume that will represent your city-state. You may wear a toga with the appropriate clothing underneath.

NMY Evals: These are due next Thursday, June 9. To keep on pace, you should be working on sections C,D, and E. These are the sections for which you evaluate Elizabeth, Rosana and me. To pace yourself, you should be finished with these by Monday.Remember, sections A-M can be submitted anonymously to Samantha or Mitchell.

Presentations of Learning: Our first rehearsal is tomorrow. Rehearse your lines this evening!

Dino Movie: Bring in costume clothing tomorrow to film. Continue practicing your lines!

This reflection on the year, the NMY program, the teachers and yourself is due by next Thursday, June 9. You may submit sections A-M anonymously to Mitchell and Samantha if you wish. Section N must be completed with your name, as it pertains to yourself. You do not have to do all of the questions in each section, but you should address most of them. As a pacing guide, you should have sections A&B completed by tomorrow.

Variety Show: The second dress rehearsal is tomorrow. How is the program looking? If you are performing, please make sure you bring all costumes/music/instruments/props for tomorrow.

Exciting Science News from Kim- Please Vote!

In science, some classes entered a contest put on by Scripps Oceanography researchers to name a new species of worm that was recently discovered. I’m very excited to report that Scripps has chosen two of the names we submitted as finalists! The public can vote for their favorite name online anytime between now and Saturday. You may only vote once per computer. You can also attend the pre-World Ocean Day celebration at Birch Aquarium on June 4th from 11 am - 3 pm and cast your vote there!
The chosen names were:Podarkeopsis vathivious (from 1st grade room 3) - the Greek word for deep-water inhabitant based on Dominic La Brie’s creation “deepo” because this is a unique worm that lives deep in the ocean
Podarkeopsis falenothiras (from 1st grade room 4 but the website says room 2) - the Greek word for whale hunter based on Theo Marx’s creation “whalewalker” because the worm was found on a whale carcus
The winner will be revealed on World Ocean Day, June 8, and will become the official scientific name of the species. Go to the link below to vote! http://aquarium.ucsd.edu/Education/World_Ocean_Day/

Knights of the Rectangle

Thanks to Allison for exploring different setup options for our Morning Meeting. It sparked an interesting conversation about why we generally set ourselves up in a circle. If you are interested in more about the history of the round table discussion, here is Britannia History’s account.

Tonight’s homework can be completed at a round, oval, square or rectangle table (or on the floor, for that matter):
